Our future, our pale blue dot. Inspired by the Voyager missions and Carl Sagans reflection upon the photo taken at the very edge of our solar system by voyager 1 showing earth as nothing more than the tinniest of pale blue marks.
"That dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, [...] on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam." - Carl Sagan
The voyager missions represent something special, the reason they even exist is down to incredible work and good fortune as they required a planetary alignment that only occurs once every 175 years to make the mission viable. Thus far the discoveries as a result of the mission, which launched in 1977, have been incredible. We have learnt about the outer planets in ways we could never have dreamed, discovered Volcanoes and super storms, geysers and methane moons, learnt about the great rings of Saturn, and the Oceans on Io. Then in 2012 we became an interstellar species as Voyager broke beyond the furthest limits of our solar system. Through it all Voyager carried with it something beautiful and pure, a golden record on which was compiled as much data as possible to represent us, humanity, and our home. There are images and songs, greetings from around the world, and on the front diagrams on how to not only play the record but also on how to find us, a pulsar map featured in the centre of our shirt design here, shows our location in the universe to whoever might find Voyager and its beautiful cargo.
